Way back in the 1920’s a CNR engineer got hit by a train while checking the tracks near St. Louis. Ever since the night the engineer got hit by a train a ghost train or a lantern appears. Some people believe that the light is simply a phantom train. Others believe it is the lantern of the brakeman who drank too much and lost his head. Now he wonders the tracks looking for his head. And even though the tracks had been removed, the lights can still be seen. No one has ever got close enough to see if the light is a lantern or a ghost train. Many don’t want to. They want to leave the mystery a mystery.
Serge Gareau and his wife Gail had company over from Alberta, and decided to show the people the St. Louis ghost train. They arrived at 11:00 pm and pulled up by the abandoned railway tracks. “We sat there for about a hour, and nothing was happening. Then all of a sudden we saw this light. It was just like a train coming. A bright light coming to us, with a little red light towards the bottom,” recalled Gareaus. The Gareaus and their friends watched the light for a good two hours. They then decided to investigate they started driving towards the light when all of the sudden it disappeared. They looked out the back window and the light was there! Then it disappeared.
The Mayor Emile Lussier never really believed in ghost mysteries but he too has seen the light. A few years back Lussier and his brother in law came up with a daring plan. “As far as we knew, nobody had actually walked the tracks. So we did,” says Lussier. They walked about a mile seeing nothing. Suddenly “there was a light right at our heels- a strong light that cast shadows. When we turned around it was gone.
Many people believe that the light are head lights from the highway. And other people say it is just simply unexplainable.
