1. Which reading did you enjoy best? Why?
I enjoyed when Mr. Nickell read best because he kept my attention when he read the story with enthusiasm.
2.What strategies do you think would help to get more out of the reading methods you didn’t enjoy?
I didn't enjoy when my classmates read. To help me better understand I could follow along on my paper. I could also focus more on the story rather than think about how well the person is reading.
For each story:
Attempt to explain the phenomenon through scientific and/or logic reasoning.
1. An Unusual Playmate: I think because the children were so young and all had such active imaginations they may have thought up the story themselves. None of the children seemed to be very "freaked out". So, there may not have been anything too frightening at the swing set.
2.Uncle Ben's House: Deena's mother had a traumatizing experience at the house, she believes she seen a ghost. This could have simply been a dress hanging on a door and she interpreted it incorrectly. Deena then many years later was the at the same house. She had already heard stories of the house being haunted. So, in her mind she created a scary experience in the house. Also the phone call may have not worked because Deena was already upset and I'm sure dialing very fast, she may have dialed the wrong number repeatedly.
3.The Taber Light: The mysterious light may have been simply teenagers from the near towns playing a trick on people. This may have become a tradition for some locals, that is why it continued for many years.
Make your own Taber Light Story
It was late last night. There was a storm brewing in the dark purple clouds. It was a frightening sight, those deadly clouds spinning and twisting around each other. I was on my way home from a long drive. I had been visiting my family in B.C. The wonderful trip had ended and it was time to get back to the daily grind. I was approaching the cemetery, but I did not expect anything unusual to happen. Until the light appeared. I had heard stories and did not think I would be afraid if i ever seen it. But, that was false, the light appeared. I sped up my car so fast that I didn't even have to time take much more of a glance. I was to paranoid to look in the mirror to see if this mystery was following me. Before I knew it I was home. I knew now that I would never take that road home again.
