Mike Rowe does dirty jobs. He does all the dirty work first hand and never shoots his television show twice. Although there was one exception to this, one particular job was to much for him to handle. He was at a farm that was castrating lambs. The “proper” way in his eyes, and also the humane society and PETA’s was to put a tiny rubber ring on the lamb, the body part would then fall off. The way the farmer wanted to do it was to make an incision and actually remove the “nuts”, but to do this it required you to use your mouth. Mike told the camera men to stop filming when he seen this because he did not think it was right. Then he realized the lamb that had the ring on, was laying the corner looking quite sick, while the other lamb was up and walking around. Mike realized he was not right about what he thought. He realized that everyone can be wrong at anytime. There are many ways to do something, and always debate-able answers. Mr.Rowe went on to say that following your dreams is not usually the best option. You can be way better off if you go a different direction than others. Think outside of the box, create new ideas. But, that is not always easy. Good ideas take a long time to accomplish.
I agree with Mike, although when he gave his speech he made it sound like there was no hope in doing anything that you actually enjoy doing. He made the point that you can enjoy what you are doing even if you its not something generally enjoyable. I agree that not following your dreams could be smart. I am often told to follow my dreams even if the dreams are not reach-able. Choosing a different path in life other than your dreams could be smart. Especially if you are looking for success. Mike mentioned a man in Las Vegas that has a pig farm. The man is now rich because he ran such a good operation. The man was once asked if farming pigs was his dream. What was his answer? Of course not! So, he did not follow his dreams even though he was most likely told over and over to do so. The people who told him were wrong about him needing to follow his dreams to be successful and happy. What does this tell you? This tells you that everyone is wrong sometimes, and that the world is not all happiness and magic. Of course things aren’t going to be perfect every time, we are humans. Well done Mike Rowe, well done.
